January Long Weekend Guide

With festival season just around the corner there is still a lot of exciting fun things happening in the city this weekend. So, don’t be stuck at home, check out our guide to get out of the house and join in with the celebrations.

Lunar New Year – Saturday 25th January

 

Celebrate the year of the Rat with plenty happening all around The Central Market Arcade and the market precinct. Take a stroll through China Town and see the street come to life with red lanterns and decorations. Make your way down Gouger Street and enjoy a banquet meal with your family at Ding Hao. As an exclusive Lunar New Year offer, Persian Art Treasure will have 20% off all gifts, rugs and crafts storewide! The celebrations continue next week with the Lunar New Year Street Party on Saturday 1st of February from 12pm until 9:30pm.

Tour Down Under – Friday 24th and Saturday 25th January

 

If you haven’t checked out the Tour Down Under Village on Victoria Square yet, Saturday will be your final chance. It’s not just for the cycling fanatics either. There is plenty to see and do for everyone, plus entry is free! Adjacent to The Central Market Arcade, you are close to plenty of food options if you get a bit hungry. Enjoy some Malaysian treats from Malacca Corner or a Vietnamese roll from OG Rolls. And if by chance you have joined in on the cycling action, enjoy a relaxing, remedial massage from Body Works Massage to help those muscles repair.

Australia Day – Sunday 26th January

 

The celebrations continue in the city with Australia Day on Sunday. Events start in the morning at Elder Park for the Australia Day Smoking Ceremony where we acknowledge the ancestors and pay respect to the land, waters and sea of country. Return to Elder Park at 6pm for Australia Day in the City with a parade, concert and fireworks. Although Central Market Arcade will not be open on Sunday you can still get ready for Australia Day with Q & P Variety who will have you covered for any Australia Day themed decorations or accessories.
